Welcome to the Third Vienna Talk on Music Acoustics

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Institute of Music Acoustics (Wiener Klangstil) of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna‚ we invited researchers, instrument makers, and musicians to the Third Vienna Talk on Music Acoustics.

The idea “Bridging the Gaps” means to focus on the dialogue between scientists, musicians, instrument makers, and conservators. Scientists of all fields related to music acoustics, organology, and performance science were encouraged to present their papers in a generally understandable way; instrument makers and musicians had the opportunity to present their rich body of experience, their hypotheses and opened questions to an interested scientific audience for discussion.

This interdsciplinary and cross-guild platform directed research towards new questions and challenges, while instrument manufacturers, instrument conservators, instrument collectors, and musicians got access to novel measurement and analysis methods and tools able to provide inspiring insights.
